This preliminary study shows the contribution of a handgrip assistance: it reduces all lower limb maximum joint moments, particularly the knee moment at the critical times of the transition (seat-off and seat-on) where the maximum knee moment is required. This decrease of joint moments is probably associated with an increase in the left shoulder, since the handgrip was held by the left hand. Future studies will include more subjects (healthy and hemiplegic) to validate the current results and to investigate the influence of handgrip assistance on the shoulder moment.
