In June 2008, Google, Inc., and Yahoo! announced an advertising agreement that would have given Yahoo! the option of using Google to provide ads on its Web sites (and its publisher partners' sites) in the United States and Canada. At the same time, both companies agreed to delay implementation of the agreement to give the US Department of Justice the chance to review it.Yahoo! and Google claimed that this was not legally necessary, but the companies felt that "it was the right thing to do" because Google andYahoo! had been successful in online advertising and realized that any cooperation would attract attention.
