Inside Moire patterns

Moire patterns are produced by the interaction of two overlaid patterns. With a little geometry, it is easy to understand where they come from and how to create and control them. To demonstrate Moire effects the author uses a very simple set of patterns: sheets of parallel lines, called gratings.
