Securing confidential, financial, or proprietary information against unauthorized use or disclosure is a growing concern among IT managers. The threat to these systems has grown to the point that today systems are not only vulnerable to dishonest employees and annoying hackers, but also terrorists and foreign nations. Despite several infamous reports of computer crime, most of the successful penetrations of IT systems go unreported. Computer Economics estimates that less than one-quarter of computer crimes are reported to legal authorities, and some computer crimes are never detected by the victim organization at all.
