These survey results highlight the role that QA plays in IT organizations. QA staffing has been remarkably constant over the past four years in the percentage of organizations staffing this function and as a percentage of total IT staff. The function is clearly more evident as organizations increase in size and can make more efficient use of QA specialists.rnLarge and midsize organizations with in-house QA have similar levels of total IT staff dedicated to ensuring the quality of software products. Companies that engage in custom software development undoubtedly have more need of QA specialists, regardless of the level of outsourcing, but all organizations have a need to ensure their systems meet quality standards. Larger companies are able to make more efficient use of QA staff, but small companies should strive to emulate the best-case leaders by adopting best practices.
