Desktop Support Staff as Percentage of IT Staff

After excluding organizations that do not staff this function, we see in Figure 3 that the desktop support staff makes up about 9.1% of the typical IT department's total staff at the median. The ratio drops to 5.0% at the 25th percentile and jumps to 14.1% at the 75th percentile. The median is slightly higher than the mean average shown in Figure 1. The median is the point at which half of the organizations have a higher percentage of desktop support staff and half have a lower percentage. The median is higher than the mean partly because we exclude organizations that have no support staff.
