Inside Intel's Centrino 2 Technology

Codenamed Montevina, Centrino 2 is the evolution of the original Centrino technology with better performance from all the major components, including the CPU, chipset, graphics and wireless adapter. It also benefits from more efficient power consumption and, as a result, improved battery life. Centrino 2 brings with it a range of new mobile processors from Intel, all based on the 45mn Penryn design. At launch, the range consists of seven Core 2 Duo processors, all with a 1,066MHz front-side bus and clock speeds ranging from 3.06GHz down to 2GHz. Each processor has either 6MB or 3MB of L2 cache, and a TDP (thermal design point) of 35W or 25W; the exception to this is the new mobile Core 2 Extreme X9100, which has a TDP of 44W. All seven processors use standard voltages, so you should expect to see low and ultra-low voltage models coming out in future months.
