New printers 'last two years' before they need refilling

Epson has released a new range of printers with ink tanks so large that they only need to be refilled every two years - according to claims by the company. The company says you'll be able to print 4,000 A4 sheets of black text, or 6,500 of colour text on the EcoTank L355 (see image, right) and L555 printers before refilling. Instead of cartridges, the EcoTank printers use four refillable 'reservoirs' (see image, below right), each with a 70ml capacity. By comparison, most print cartridges are 10 to 15 ml. With the EcoTank range, Epson is moving away from the standard business model of selling printers at low prices, but charging high prices for cartridges.
