York to be UK's first 1GB broadband city

York will become the first city to have widespread 1GB broadband after Sky and TalkTalk announced plans to offer ultra-fast speeds to 20,000 business and residential premises across the city, covering a population of 200,000. The companies have teamed up with CityFibre and Fujitsu in a joint venture that is expected to be completed by 2015. The venture will mark the first time that Sky and TalkTalk have been able to offer FTTP broadband on their own infrastructure.
