New PCs must upgrade to Windows 10, says Microsoft

The company said that on 17 July 2017 it will stop releasing security updates for computers that are powered by Intel's Skylake processor and run Windows 7 or 8.1. After that time only the "most critical" security fixes will be released for 7 and 8.1 PCs, Microsoft said. That gives people running 7 or 8.1 on a Skylake PC less than 18 months to upgrade. But some users will have to upgrade sooner. That's because the company has said it will only support Microsoft-approved Skylake computers. It includes many bestselling models from Dell, Lenovo and HP.
