Use a better alternative to Windows Notepad

Windows Notepad is the ideal tool for quickly typing non-formatted text that you can then save or copy and paste to other programs and websites. However, it is fairly basic and lacks many useful features, such as spellchecking, find-and-replace and bookmarking. DocPad is the best free alternative we've used because it offers all these features (and more), and each one can be launched with its own keyboard shortcut. Even though it's only a text editor, it has features that are on par with Microsoft Word.
