Not everyone wants a printer that can perfectly reproduce copies of their holiday snaps. If you print only letters and documents, it's a bit of a waste to buy all that coloured ink and never use it. The Canon Pixma GM2050 is perfect for this requirement. It's an inkjet printer that only takes black ink, but it uses Canon's excellent MegaTank system, which means you refill the printer using bottles of ink instead of cartridges. This is better value for money and better for the environment. With only one ink, Canon has been able to reduce the size of the printer compared with its four- and six-colour stablemates. It measures a modest 166×403×369mm (H×W×D), slicing nearly 50mm off the width of the six-colour Canon Pixma G650 (see our review, Issue 610), though it is a little deeper.
