As we've shown in recent issues, in which we've digitised video tapes and captured negatives and photos, it's never been easier to preserve your memories for future generations. Now it's time to assemble words and photos into a digital scrapbook which you can share with friends and family. We'll use Scribus, a fantastic free DTP program. Visit www.scribus.net, hover over Get Scribus, then click the three lines at the top right followed by 'Stable branch' in the dropdown menu. Click the link immediately below 'Windows 64 Bit (Vista, 7, 8, 10)' and, on the SourceForge page this takes you to, click the green Download Latest Version button. When it's downloaded, open the file and accept the default options on each page of the installation instructions, then launch the software once it's installed. The PDF you'll be creating can be opened on a PC, tablet or smartphone. So, as computer screens are landscape, and tablets and smartphones can both be used in landscape orientation, we're going to create a wide rather than a tall layout. With A4 selected in the Size menu (in screenshot above right), click the dropdown menu below it to change Orientation to Landscape.
