Mobile firms to share networks to boost rural signals

The UK's four biggest phone networks have agreed to set up a 'Shared Rural Network' to improve 4G signal coverage in remote areas. EE, O2, Three and Vodafone have proposed spending £530m to build shared infrastructure, letting them place their equipment on each other's phone masts. If this is carried out, the Government has pledged to spend a further £500m to boost coverage as part of its target to provide 4G to 95 per cent of the UK.
