Government: wrong to say we hit 24Mbps target

The Government has admitted it made a mistake by claiming it had hit its target of making a minimum of 24Mbps 'superfast' broadband available to 97 per cent of UK premises. Digital Minister Margot James (pictured) made the claim during a debate in the House of Commons in early July. It came as a surprise to many industry experts because the Government had previously said the target wouldn't be hit before March 2020. The Government confirmed that Mrs James meant to say that 96 per cent of homes and businesses could now get 24Mbps, a difference of around 300,000 premises.
