Can my wife use my old GSM phone?

My partner is becoming increasingly forgetful, so we've agreed it'd be sensible for her to start carrying a mobile phone - even though she doesn't like them. I've used mobiles for the past IS or so years, but only fairly basic models. Right now I'm on an iPhone 4, and happy with it. Before that I used a Nokia 3330 (pictured right) that I bought around the millennium. I've kept this in a drawer and, having powered it up recently, it's still in working order. I know we'd need to arrange a call contract of some kind, but I have no idea where to start or if it'd even be an option for a handset this old? I'd appreciate any advice you could offer, though please talk slowly!
