An analysis of the transient response of a floating composite ship section subjected to underwater shock is pressed in this paper. Based on Doubly Asymptotic Approximation (DAA) method, the fluid-structure interaction equation for a partially submerged structure is derived, in which the constitutive relation for composite material is implemented and also the effects of the free surface are included. The coupled fluid-structure equations, relating structure response to fluid impassive loading, are solved using coupled finite-element and boundary-element codes. Transient stress distribution of the composite ship section induced by the underwater shock is illustrated. The influences of the boundary conditions on the transient response of the ship section subjected to underwater shock is studied; and further more, effects of the charge position, the charge weight and the stand-off distance on the transient stress response are examined.
