Sandwich structures with composite facesheets and multi-core cellularic materials are being used for load-bearing and protection applications against shocks and medium impact loading. These structures are prone to various surface and sub-surface damage during their operational service life. This experimental work explores the repair technology for these hybrid composite structures using adhesively bonded joints. The post repair performance depends upon the adhesive selection, joint design and repair strategy. This paper aims at experimental evaluation of the performance of thermosetting adhesives for graded honeycomb core sandwich composite structures when subjected to quasi-static tensile loading. Failure modes and progression of damage in these hybrid sandwich structures consisting of honeycomb cores and long fiber reinforced polymer matrix composites is analyzed using strain gauge and acoustic emission measurements.
