Most CI professionals I have spoken with, worked with, or taught have understood that even though wehave collected all the data including both the primary and secondary information, we still need to doour analysis in order to answer any key intelligence question and derive the insight so necessary tosupport the decision maker’s needs.The cornerstone is analysis - "a step in the production ofintelligence in which information is subjected to systematic examination in order to identify relevantfacts, determine significant relationships and derive key findings and conclusions". Analysis is the "uglyduckling" component of the basic competitive intelligence process - "ugly" because few people writeabout it, not many people want to talk about it, and even fewer people claim to be expert at it.
