For some it may represent a calculated risk; for others a way to get a jury's attention. But not abiding by strict competition guidelines always has its inherent risks. Architects participating in invited competitions are usually very cautious when pushing that edge of the envelope, for a real commission is probably at stake. That, in itself, can be difficult enough without challenging the intent of a competition brief.
