A Handbook of Media and Communication Research, edited by Klaus Bruhn Jensen, offers a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in media and communication studies. As with the first edition, published in 2002, the second edition of the handbook is organized around three main themes. Part one, History, describes the historical development of media and communication research and discusses theoretical key concepts and research traditions. The second part, Systematics, is structured by the different processes of communication and deals with media organizations, media texts, media audiences, and media contexts. The final part, Practice, provides practical guidelines for conducting media research, covering quantitative, qualitative as well as multi-method approaches to communication research. Featuring three new chapters, the second edition provides a total of nineteen chapters that offer an extensive overview of both the theoretical grounds and practical applications in the field, and also includes views from the humanities and social sciences.
