Katharina Kohse-Hoeinghaus retires as Editor

On September 30, 2010, Katharina Kohse-Hoinghaus retired after serving as Editor of Combustion and Flame for 6 years. First Katharina was in charge of all manuscripts that did not originate from the Americas and Japan, and since January 2009 for manu-scripts originating from Europe, Australia and Oceania, Africa, and China. When Katharina started her tenure as an Editor in August 2004, the journal's Impact Factor was 1.023, the average time from submission to first decision was about 4.5 months, and the manuscript submission and processing was non web-based. Katharina worked very hard with Jim Driscoll for 4 years, and she has been instrumental in achieving notable changes of several as-pects of the journal. The journal's Impact Factor has risen to 2.923 in 2010, an all-time high. Since 2007, the manuscript submissions as well as all exchanges between the Editors, the authors, the reviewers, and the publisher, have been entirely web-based, and as a result, the average processing time from submission to first decision has been reduced to about 2 months. Since 2007 also, fea-ture articles appear on a quarterly basis, and they are chosen according to content, discipline, and reviewers' comments. In 2008, the journal switched to the A4 format and the cover was en-tirely redesigned making it aesthetically more attractive and easier to the reader as it contains more information per page.
