During finishing, the product has to cover the textile so that the molecules are arranged on the fiber surface ideally with their hydro-phobic groups parallel projecting outside. The aluminium salt/paraffin dispersions are positively charged due to trivalent aluminium and are adsorbed by oppositely charged surface. Only after drying do they get oriented like bristles on the fiber, preventing the wetting of surface.
