Multi - mono coloured dyeing effect on cotton through pretreatment with NaOH

NaOH is used in different areas of chemical processing, was not tried earlier for use in pretreatment of cotton prior to reactive dyeing to avoid development of unleveled shades. In the present work, it was found that if cotton is pretreated with NaOH followed by padding with reactive dye, dye strength of cotton goes up remarkably and the latter varies directly with concentration of NaOH. If this pretreatment is done locally, it develops multi-mono coloured effect on cotton which alternately can be developed only by printing. However cotton become stiffen differential air permeability, tensile strength, stiffness etc. are developed at different points, which may lead to complications during end use.
