50 years of BTRA - A milestone to cherish

It is indeed commendable that Bombay Textile Research Association, more popularly known by its acronym BTRA has entered its 50th year in service to the industry this year. One of the past editorials in COLOURAGE, not too long ago, aptly spoke of Textile Research Associations (TRAs) as the backbone of the textile industry. Taking a look back at the services that BTRA (and the other TRAs of course) have been rendering to the industry would more than justify this statement. BTRA has carved a name for itself in all aspects of textile technology and allied sciences and its scope of activities cover the entire gamut of the textile industry. In its fifty year long journey, BTRA has not only covered mundane activities like mechanical and wet processing in textiles, but also several pioneering activities which were well ahead of its times. Among its many firsts were the product process development in technical textiles through the nonwoven route, work on polymer chemistry, microprocessor based instrumentation energy audits and so on.
