If a wire is one nanometer in breadth then 80,000 such wires have to align themselves breadth wise to reach the width of a human hair. One billion nanometers make a meter. It is creation of useful materials, devices and systems in such sizes that constitutes Nanotechnology (NT). This marvelous technology has great potential and has found application in diverse fields including textile chemical processing. India is yet to make a beginning for introducing this unique and amazing technology. Scientific principles and the type of reactions that are taking place in nanomolecules for textile finishing were highlighted in the talk, writes Dr. K.S. Murthy, Technical Consultant, Pidilite Industries Limited.
