AN Institute-Industry Interface on the subject "Scope of Banana Fibre in Textiles and other industries" was arranged jointly by Man Made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA) and Navsari Agricultural University (NAU) on 24th May 2011, at Seminar hall of MANTRA, Surat. The main objective of the program was to introduce banana fibre to Surat textile industry and to present idea about its manufacturing and processing techniques as well as end products that were possible. The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. A.R. Pathak, Vice Chancellor, NAU and Chief Guest was Mr C.R. Patil, Hon. M.P. Navsari. To begin with Dr. S.K. Basu, Director, MANTRA gave welcome addresses. Dr. H.C. Pathak, Director Research, NAU presented outline of the project on "A value chain on utilization of banana pseudostem from fibre and other value added products". He said that NAU is the lead centre and CIRCOT (Mumbai), MANTRA (Surat) and J.K.Paper Mill (Songadh) are partners in the project which was sanctioned in 2008, under NAIP Component II funded by World Bank.
