The present work is a part of EiTEX and BDTSC, an industrial linkage project. The wet processing/finishing department in Bahir Dar Textile Share Company (BDTSC) was facing serious problem of poor absorbency of ready for dyed goods. Almost 100% production was reprocessed wasting huge amount of chemicals, water and energy. As a result, the company stopped taking the dyed goods orders. The objective of this project was to customize the suitable pretreatment process in BDTSC on the basis of equipments available and their condition, chemicals available, steam availability etc. The purpose was to achieve right process sequence applicable in their set up to do cost effective wet processing and thereby enhancing their competitiveness and versatility in terms of product, quality, productivity and cost. In the present work, the efforts have been made to improve, the absorbency of cotton textiles by doing laboratory studies followed by semi bulk and bulk trials. All process control parameters, including processes, process sequence, chemical recipes, time and temperature have been optimized, with achievement of desired good absorbency. It has opened the way to process dyed goods and get more sales order and profitability in BDTSC.
