Graduated from the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow with a chemistry degree and forensic toxicology doctorate, worked for National Museums Scotland in the Department of Conservation and Analytical Research and on the Royal Museum Project for 20 years. Her heritage science research of natural and synthetic dyed textiles in archives and museums is combined with chromatographic analysis with their materials, decorative art, and technical histories.
