Transformation of saris worn by Santhal Tribes by using motifs of Sohrai wall painting of Jharkhand

India is a home to largest tribes in the world. The roots of culture and distinctive lifestyle is marked identification of the tribal population of the country. Tribal inhabitants of Jharkhand are amongst one of them. Tribes of Jharkhand excel in hand crafted activities, dance, music, wall paintings and owes a distinctive style of clothing. The present study is focused on exploring the traditional textile and wall paintings of Santhal tribes and transforming the textile draped by Santhal women by surface embellishment techniques using Sohrai wall painting motifs. Acceptability and marketability of the ready products was evaluated.
