SOCIETY for Industrial Chemistry featured Best Teacher Prof Sunil S Bhagwat(SSB), Former Head, Chemical Engineering Department, ICT in 3rd National Conference on Surfactants on 13th April 2019 at K.Venkataraman Auditorium. Touched with the gesture of Chief Guest at ICT, he remarked that the surfactant science has been close to his heart for over 30 years though no institution conducted a full-fledged semester course notwithstanding the field of material science and technology's requirements finding what happens at interfaces. Exposure to various types of industries enriched him with several aspects of interfacial science required in different applications like Textile processing, recovery of petroleum from the earth crust to subsequent processing, drug formulations, pesticides, fighting fire through foams, personal care applications like shaving foam or cream. People working in a field end up looking at one or two specific aspects, like paint formulations for dispersing and stabilising pigment particles in the medium, making a lotion or cream for stability of that emulsion. Surfactants manufacturers look for impurities and their impact on the consumers making formulations because learnings in one field do not get used in another regardless of material science people dealing with aspects of interfacial science.
