Powerloom textile exporters need to look for new markets

Powerloom textiles export, which has been witnessing 10-12 per cent growth rate on a year-on-year basis, is set for faster growth due to the introduction of newer machinery, according to Ms Smita Bhardwaj, Executive Director, Powerloom Develop-ment and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL)."Powerloom exports grew by about 12 per cent in 2008-09, against that during the corresponding year. In 2009-10, however, there was some impact on exports due to the global recession. Though the exact figures are yet to be arrived at, but on a month-on-month basis, exports dropped by about four-to-five per cent," Ms Bhardwaj said, while speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a press conference on developments in powerloom sector organised by the Chamber of Textile Trade and Industry (Cotti) recently in Kolkata.
