摘要

Have you noticed that fabric designers are incorporating more large-scale prints and fabrics with large design repeats into collections of quilting cottons? Trend influencers include the current popularity of historic prints such as toiles, and ethnic textiles going mainstream. Also we see more 44/45″ cottons being used in home decor, and this means bigger motifs are required for large-scale projects. While many manufacturers are offering large-scale prints in each new collection, some with repeats of 12″, 18″ and 24″, retailers are resisting. They aren't sure how their customers will use such prints in quilt projects. Patti Carey of Northcott/Monarch explains the positioning of large scale prints. "We are drawn to these large-scale prints because of their complexity or because they have a theme we are looking for. They are the starting point of a collection. Most of the other fabrics in a collection are extracts of the focal fabric or are designed to complement it."
