In his quest for rubber alternatives, Henry Ford experimented with thousands of plants, including soy beans. He extruded long, silky, strong fibers from the bean proteins and spun them into thread. Aha! Soy fiber. Jonelle Raffino, principal of South West Trading Co., the modern-day manufacturer of SoySilk~(TM), can show you a photo of old Henry dressed in a suit and tie made from soy fiber. But there is absolutely nothing rubbery about South West's SoySilk yarn. It's softer than cotton, has a beautiful sheen, and is a joy to work with. It's 100% soy beans, but the soft-as-silk feel led Raffino to coin the SoySilk name.
