Intel to close five plants with loss of 5,000 jobs

Computer chip maker Intel will lay off at least 5,000 staff and close five of its older manufacturing plants during this year.rnAs part of a corporate restructuring, the company will close two assembly test facilities in Penang, Malaysia and one in Cavite, Philippines. Production will also cease at Fab 20, an older 200mm wafer fabrication facility in Hillsboro, Oregon. Additionally, wafer production operations will end at the D2 facility in Santa Clara, California.
