Germgard dispenser sterilises hands

Germgard Lighting has developed a UVC dispenser that sterilises bare and gloved hands instantly. The US firm says it achieves -61oglO inactivation in less than three seconds of MRSA and Clostridium difficile spores. In contrast, hand washing and alcohol hand rubs, for bare hands, have limited ability to sanitise and fall short of the nominal sanitation goal of -4loglO (99.99%) inactivation. Alcohol rub also has a limited effect against some viruses, and is ineffective on C. difficile. Germgard's ceo Eugene Gordon says: "Our breakthrough, patent-pending, UVC technology represents an effective solution to a critical infection prevention need."
