Work begins on new £5m decontamination unit

Work has begun on a £5m project to build a new unit to sterilise surgical instruments at Colchester General Hospital and Essex County Hospital. The Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU), located on the edge of the Colchester General Hospital site, will replace the existing facility in the hospital's Main Block and will have new equipment that benefits from technology advances and reduced water consumption compared with the machines currently in use.
