Tru-D UV system shown to prevent C. difficile

Residents of long-term care facilities (LTCFs) are especially vulnerable to Clostridium difficile infection (CDI), the most common cause of nosocomial diarrhoea. In a recent article in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (May 2012 issue), researchers shared the results of a trial that used a Tru-D SmartUVC disinfection system to prevent coincident recurrent CDI episodes in roommates in an LTCE The team monitored two LTCF patients. During the months that the patients shared a room, they also shared coincident recurrences of CDI, which suggested ongoing cross-contamination.
