Study on the effectiveness of antimicrobial curtains in infection control

The University of Iowa in the US has been instrumental in providing the latest evidence on the role that soft surfaces - such as hospital privacy curtains -play in infection control. In the April 2012 issue of the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC), research from the Department of Internal Medicine, in the Carver College of Medicine, revealed that 95% of the curtains examined were contaminated at least once during the study with pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and 18 with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE).
