FIRST SCOTTISH CROSS-PARTY GROUP ON WASTES MANAGEMENT

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management played host to a lunchtime Scottish Parliamentary reception on 29th October to launch the first Cross-Party Group on Wastes Management, as Dr. Jane Beasley reports. The new Cross-Party Group on Wastes Management has been launched to raise awareness amongst Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) of issues that need to be addressed to facilitate the implementation of the Scottish Waste Plans and Area Waste Strategies. Its launch provided a good opportunity to promote the group and, with over 50 guests in attendance, there was plenty of opportunity to gather support. Marlyn Glen MSP, who instigated the formation of the group, was the first to welcome representatives from the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Executive, SEPA, SESA, local councillors and NGOs, who had gathered to give their support and to hear more about the group.
