The Caledonian Connection

The initial germ of the idea behind the Caledonian Environment Centre emerged during a regular progress meeting to discuss waste management services for a Scottish local authority in the 1990s.Passing reference was made to the lack of an academic dimension for the Scottish waste management industry and by the end of the meeting it had been agreed that something should be done to put this right; a university should be approached to explore the possibility of establishing a facility to promote and encourage research, development and consultancy in Scottish waste management issues and to promote close links with the (then) Scottish Office, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA) and the Scottish Centre of the (then) Institute of Wastes Management.
