Metric Units Are Catching On

The shunning of metric conversion by the majority of the American people derives from the fact that people usually need to know little about the relations between units because they make relatively little use of them. As far as inch-pound units are concerned, people may learn some of the conversion factors during their school years, but they are unsure about them later on. Many Americans are hard-pressed to tell how many avoirdupois ounces are in a pound or how many fluid ounces are in a gallon.
