BLAST PROTECTION AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION

Numerous Challenges can affect the renovation of façade systems on buildings of historical importance that are being upgraded to resist bomb blast loading. Replacement and reinforcement of these systems can be hampered by, for example, historic preservation laws that require reuse or matching of original window mullion profiles and façade elements, limits on constructing directly inside the existing façade for reasons of space or access, a need for the building in question to remain in opera- tion during construction, or limits imposed by the budget or schedule.
