Consumer, Auto Industries Surf Outsourcing Wave

I am often asked, "What are the next big electronics industry sectors to outsource manufacturing?" Currently, my company tracks the manufacturing-outsourcing strategies of 10 overall categories of electronic equipment. Of the 10, the automotive and consumer electronics industries have two critical factors in common: (1) The percentage of cost of goods sold currently outsourced is the lowest of the 10, and ripe with potential, and (2) the forecasted growth rates for outsourcing by these two industries are the highest. (Figure 1).
