Laser trimming—a process that is essential for manufacturing tight tolerance chip resistors—is also a viable solution for achieving tight tolerances in embedded passives. However, because the primary design focus is often on maximizing functionality and performance while minimizing board area, the needs of passives test and trim processes are not always taken into consideration. Understanding the technical issues associated with laser trimming and following probe and trim guidelines can result in more cost-effective, high-performance circuitry.
