More Than Moore: Consequences for the PCB Industry in General and for Electrical Test in Particular

The semiconductor industry is determined to integrate many new functions (sensors/actuators, bio chip, etc.) on a single chip. Even though the prophecy of Moore's Law is still valid, it is no longer sufficient to address many new expectations from both industrial and consumer markets. "More Than Moore" (Figure 1) requires new shifts in the semiconductor industry. The probable solution will be on the semiconductor back and front end, where packaging lies. Disruptive electrical test solutions are expected to enable the rise of 3D IC technology.
