Telematics Pick Up Speed

Microsoft and Toyota plan to use Windows Azure, Microsoft's cloud offering, to build a telematics service that will initially serve owners of the carmaker's hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars. The companies say that together they will invest $12 million to build a global cloud platform "that will provide affordable and advanced telematics services to Toyota automotive customers around the world." Although the cloud platform won't be completed until 2015, the first applications should be available in cars sold next year.
