'World's First' Digital Theatre is a success 'without reels'

Digital Projection International (DPI) & IAAAX~R supplied the first DIGIMAX DLP Cinema~(TM) projector to the Japanese cinema operator TJOY, for use in a theatre within the multiplex. Since then, the 6 screen multiplex has reported great success, with 25% average occupancy, compared with 15-20% average occupancy for a conventional cinema multiplex in Japan. Digital Projection's DIGIMAX digital cinema projectors display high quality, digital images delivered either by satellite or DVD instead of via traditional 35mm film reels. IMAX believes that its proprietary technology, in addition to Texas Instrument's new DLP Cinema~(TM) chip which provides a higher black level and better overall contrast, will help make Digital Projection a leader in the digital cinema projector market.
