BFI Initiatives stir up concern

Our report on 'Major New Initiatives' from the bfi in the June 'Cinema Technology' was an accurate summary of the bfi's official announcements on the subject, but since then it seems that a large and growing body of concern about some of these ideas and their implications has sprung up - especially relating to the National Film & Television Archive. Many of those involved are deeply worried and think that the industry and the wider film and heritage community should be also. The website www.filmarchiveaction.org claims that it has been created 'to unite international support in defence of the imperilled motion picture heritage' and says that 'action is essential now to defend Britain's National Film Heritage'.
