Cinema Expo International 2005

The fourteenth Cinema Expo International took place at the end of June in Amsterdam's RAI Convention Centre...and it's still the biggest and best show europe can offer to the cinema exhibition business. A full programme of seminars and screenings, and three trade show sessions, ran over four days...with additional events and seminars preceding it. This year saw a change to the previous format inasmuch as there was no final night dinner and awards presentation...this year's awards being made during a finalday luncheon ceremony. However, a screening of Sony Pictures Releasing International 'Bewitched', followed by a post-screening reception and buffet on the final night provided delegates with the glitzy, send off they had become accustomed to. Digital cinema was a favourite seminar topic along with audience appreciation and understanding and the ever present film piracy concerns. Security at the screenings was high, underlining the concerns of the whole industry - it's a great pity that security doesn't justify the prohibition of all mobiles at screenings, whether or not they are camera 'phones, as 'please switch off all mobiles' seems to written in a language many delegates fail to Screenings this year included UIP/Paramount Pictyres 'War of the Worlds', and 'Skeleton Key', Warner Bros. Pictures International's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', Buena Vista International's 'Herbie: Fully Loaded' and 'Cinderella Man' and Twentieth Century Fox International's 'Walk the Line'.
